The Labante Caves were formed thanks to a unique karst phenomenon, caused by the erosion of the river that comes from the San Cristoforo spring. This spring, which still today supplies water to the municipalities of Castel D'Aiano and Vergato, is accumulated inside the main tank of the aqueduct. When the volume of water becomes greater than the capacity of the tank, it is released and flows down the rock, feeding the spectacular San Cristoforo waterfall. Thanks to its so particular profile, always in continuous evolution, it lends itself very well to taking sensational photos, especially in the early morning light.
